CAMPAIGN INFO

The projects below outline a range of events that vary in technique and tools. My ultimate objective is to know in my heart that at a particular time in my career I was at my peak and I dont yet feel that moment is in my wake. Every project listed below has a direct influence and impact on the overall preparation towards this ultimate objective. Whether the targeted discipline be endurance, speed, navigation, technical skill development or working within teams.

Throughout my career I have experienced an array of different types of sailing and events, from world speed records to the America’s Cup to the Volvo Ocean Race. When I reached the Vendée Globe in 2004 somehow I was not completely ready for the challenge of spending up to 100 days at sea alone racing a powerful 60-foot (18m) high performance yacht around the world single-handed, without stops and without assistance.

The de-brief on this project uncovered some blantant mistakes that need to be rectified and sinve that period a great deal of positive progress has been made towards turning what were weakness' into strengths. My unquestionable objective in yacht racing is a World Championship Crown this is my ultimate goal in sporting life.

This is my quest and these are the projects…

TO BE THE BEST   27 Apr 2008 // 20:39
TO BE THE BEST
Nicks number one objective is to win a small boat World Championship event and in his own words..'this is my ultimate goal and i have the rest of my life to achieve it!' The last time Nick campaigned towards a specific Wold Championship event was in 1996 where he finished equal first and was relegated to second on count back after the final race on the waters of San Francisco Bay. This yearning just gets stronger every year and Nicks certainly not getting any yonger. In the next few years several classes will be sailed to see which suit best before focus swings full time towards this objective. If the results come Nick may see the chance to realize a life long dream to compete in the Olympic Games.

CLASS FIGARO   29 Nov 2006 // 15:59
CLASS FIGARO
The Solitare du Figaro is the unofficial world championship of solo sailing. Raced in strict one-design yachts, this is the proving ground for the solo sailor, the arena where he or she tests their skills against other sailors on a level playing field of yacht design and budget. A place where confidence in oneself and the sailor’s tools used at sea alone can be achieved. Nick will not consider attempting the Vendee Globe again without having proved to himself that he is a strong one-design solo sailor in this class.

TOUR DE FRANCE À LA VOILE   29 Nov 2006 // 15:33
TOUR DE FRANCE À LA VOILE
This event sailing’s version of the famous French bike race where teams compete on a series of long and short courses around the Atlantic and Mediterranean coastline of France. This is an amazing test of team skill, both short and long course, and support logistics of a much larger team infrastructure in an event that is a travelling competition and road show that moves consistently for a month. Generally it is not the team that possesses the most sailing skill that wins outright, but the team that has good sailors, great preparation but, most importantly, excellent management and organisation.
